Check Proposed School Rezoning in Williamson County

Unless you have a current student in Williamson County Schools, you may not be aware that your home MAY be re-zoned for schools. The county web site has provided a link for citizens to check their address for the proposed NEW school zone. The new rezoning proposal most affects homes currently zoned for Ravenwood High School, in Brentwood.

This may affect your property in a number of ways, so I encourage you to check your address.

If you are currently looking for, or have a contract on a home in Williamson, you should check the address as well.

The Implications - Nashville Flood 2010

In many ways, waking up on May 2nd, in the midst of millennial flooding, reminded me how I felt the day after 9/11. What was important before had profoundly changed. I was so thankful not to personally have been affected, but deeply pained and saddened by what was happening to friends and total strangers who were literally under water.
As a tragedy unfolds, one struggles to grasp and comprehend the vast changes that are being rendered. It takes the passing of time to fully realize the implications of these changes, and adapt to a “new normal”. For most of us, the implications are minor—like taking a new route to work due to a washed out road. For some, the implications are much greater, such as worrying how you are going to be able to afford to repair your home or dealing with the loss of personal records, family photographs, all of your clothing, and much more…
Human beings are incredibly resilient — our nature is to adapt and move forward. However, the process of adapting and moving forward is painful. Many who have not personally been touched by the flooding are reaching out to help ease the pain for those who have born the brunt of this tragedy. Volunteers, buoyed by compassion, empathy and a love of fellow man, are lifting up others, often total strangers, who need help.
Day by day, week by week, month by month, through working together, the “implications” of this flood will be reckoned with...and gradually, put aside as bittersweet memories. Bitter from the devastation, but sweet, because out of this tragedy, we have experienced what simply loving one another can accomplish, and are amazed.

"METH CAPITAL OF THE WORLD"?

Normally I like to highlight the MANY positive attributes and accolades of my home state in this blog. However, while taking a continuing education class today, I heard the shocking statistic that Tennessee is considered the "methamphetamine capital of the world"!

While this is alarming news, it is comforting to know that the state of Tennessee is maintaining a list of properties that have been quarantined, and those that have been re mediated.

As a real estate professional, I encourage my clients who may be considering a property for purchase, to inspect it and research it as thoroughly as possible. I'm glad to add this list to my "arsenal" of sources.

Woodland MS Pet Adoption Day!

WMS OPERATION OUTREACH PROGRAM

Williamson County Animal Shelter & Adopt-A-Pet Program

Woodland Middle School Operation Outreach will once again help Williamson County Animal Shelter this spring! They will be collecting much needed items to help the shelter save more animals and find good homes for as many of them as possible. From bags of dog food and litter to toys and blankets, these donations will greatly reduce the shelter's need to purchase supplies and will be greatly appreciated. The goal is to have each student bring in at least one item, no matter how big or how small! The wish list below will give you an idea of what the shelter can really use right now. Donations should be placed outside the school's front office.

Woodland Middle School will also have their very own Pet Adoption Day on Saturday, April 24th from 10-2. This is where families will get the opportunity to see and adopt a pet from the Williamson County Animal Shelter here at Woodland! If you are thinking about getting a pet, please mark your calendars! If you cannot wait that long, please consider pet adoption---there are so many great pets that have been affected by the economy.

You can see the shelter’s current list of pets at http://www.petfinder.com/shelters/TN75.html.

New Williamson County Schools Opening 2010

Williamson County Schools have updated their school zoning and bus route information to reflect two new schools opening Fall of 2010. Pearre Creek Elementary in West Franklin and Allendale Elementary in Spring Hill will open their doors to over 900 K-5th graders in August.

When searching for a new home, it is important to remember that school zone information in the MLS is deemed accurate but not guaranteed. The best way to insure you are selecting a home in the school zone you desire is to rely on the county school system's information.

To check your address or a potential address if you are buying a home in Williamson, County, please visit Williamson County Schools' WebQuery site found at http://www.wcs.edu/webquery/ for school zone and bus route information.

If you are in the market for a new property, give me a call! 615-945-7139.

January is National Radon Action Month

Did you know Radon exposure is the #1 cause of Lung Cancer in non-smoking Americans? I'm not an alarmist and don't casually throw out statistics unless I know it will potentially impact my clients and friends.

You can see from the EPA Map, that Middle Tennessee is a pretty high-risk geographic area for Radon exposure. Radon is a colorless, odorless and tasteless radioactive gas.

The good news is you CAN test your home (or potential home)for Radon levels to determine if you should be concerned. If you find you have Radon levels higher than EPA's recommendation for safety, it CAN be mitigated with the installation of a special system.

Why not schedule a Radon test for your home this month to ensure your family's safety? Many home inspectors can set up a Radon monitor and provide you with the analysis of the results. for more information on Radon and National Radon Action Month visit http://preview.tinyurl.com/y5f26n

If you need help finding a reputable source for testing, email me at Dawne@bobparks.com or visit ASHI (American Society of Home Inspectors)for a list of qualified home inspectors who you can contact about Radon testing. http://www.ashi.org/find/default.aspx

New Year New Website!

With the new year, I am focusing on an even better presence on the web. I have revamped my website with Bob Parks Realty to offer an incredible array of tools for looking for property, investing in property, staying informed about the community and obtaining accurate fast information on many subjects such as gardening, your property values, lifestyles, and owning real estate in Middle Tennessee.

Check out my site and you'll see for yourself the tools I'm talking about. The My Homefinder feature allows YOU to set up a password protected search of properties from the MLS that fit exactly the features you select. You have the option of emailing them to me or just you, and the information you receive is LIVE from the MLS. As new properties hit the market, you'll get an email notifying you about them. If you find a house you want to see, you can send me a direct message I'll receive on my phone....So cool!

You can also search for properties by the Atlas feature(maps exactly the streets you want to include), that are new on the market, luxury homes, or just properties that I am listing.

You will find a feature that allows you to search for open houses. Just plug in the neighborhood you are interested in and you'll get a list, a map and directions.

The web site features community links such as consumer resources like Kelly Blue Book and the Better Business Bureau, tips on safe Internet practices, relocation suggestions and a special link just for kids with TONS of interactive information and fun...you can spend a whole day just checking it all out.

Take a spin for yourself at the link below, then bookmark me as one of your favorites.
